The calendar specifies a 30 November cutoff of 11:59 a.m. CET. Because abbreviated time descriptions can be misread, submit before the final day and confirm the exact portal deadline. Do not silently interpret a midday cutoff as midnight.

Check the ESOP eligibility boundary

ETH describes very strong bachelor’s performance, including a top-ten-percent self-assessment, and excludes applicants already enrolled in an ETH master’s programme or holding a master’s degree. ESOP uses the first application window. Check academic admission requirements for your chosen programme separately.

If your institution does not issue class ranks, do not invent one. Explain the evidence available and follow the provider’s requested self-assessment. Similarly, a scholarship eligibility condition does not replace a programme prerequisite. Compare your transcript to the actual curriculum requirements before spending your time on the scholarship component.

What the award covers

The ESOP page lists CHF 13,500 per semester from autumn 2027 and a tuition waiver for the normal three- or four-semester master’s duration. Confirm the terms for the selected programme and a real offer before planning around an award.

Separate the scholarship decision from admission in your budget. If you would not attend without funding, record that dependency clearly. Do not interpret a successful upload, an invitation to interview or a general statement about scholarships as a personal funding commitment.

Develop your own pre-proposal

ESOP requires a self-developed master’s-thesis pre-proposal and stresses proper scientific citation. Treat it as evidence of your reasoning. Choose a question you understand, identify the relevant literature and propose an approach whose scope makes sense for the degree.

A useful drafting sequence is question, motivation, method and limitation. What would you investigate? Why is it worth investigating? What data or techniques might help? What could prevent the approach from working? A modest, clearly reasoned proposal is more informative than a sweeping promise unsupported by preparation.

Coordinate references and admission documents

Collect the documents required for the master’s application and check the additional scholarship tasks. Review your file for consistent dates, qualifications and research claims. If contacted about an interview or clarification, respond through the official channel and use the opportunity to explain your reasoning honestly.
