Find the qualification rule first
Start with the award type, duration, subject and awarding institution. A four-year honours degree and a two-year bachelor’s followed by another qualification can be assessed differently. Equal years of education do not automatically establish equal standing in every destination. Read the programme and country-specific requirements together.
Treat conversions cautiously
A directory might convert a percentage, degree class or foreign scale into a score out of four. That can narrow a search, but the institution may apply its own equivalency rules. A listed 3.0 is not a promise that every applicant with 3.0 qualifies. Keep the original grading basis beside a converted number and ask how the university assesses your qualification.
Look beyond the overall grade
Prerequisite modules, relevant credits, research experience, portfolios, tests and supervisor availability can matter. A course can accept your overall result but require mathematics you have not studied. Another may describe an alternative route based on experience. Only the institution can establish how its route applies to your record.
Example: use a filter to ask better questions
A student with 3.33 finds courses indexed below that result. The next step is to check whether each value is an actual four-point requirement or a converted class. They verify degree duration, prerequisites and English evidence before deciding the course is a realistic option. The search has produced leads, not admission offers.
| Index result | Next verification |
|---|---|
| CGPA below your result | Check the original grading requirement |
| Programme in your field | Check prerequisite modules and credits |
| IELTS figure listed | Check version, components and validity |
| Deadline shown | Confirm intake and current application round |
Ask a precise eligibility question
Name the course, intake, qualification, institution, duration and grading scale. Ask which published equivalency rule applies and whether a particular prerequisite is satisfied. Use official channels for requested documents. You do not need to circulate identity records to receive general course information.
Label the evidence
Use three shortlist labels: requirement confirmed, clarification needed and requirement not met. Keep written responses from admissions and continue preparing other options while you wait. This is more reliable than treating uncertain entries as safe choices.
